COW Parade SLO

About the Auction

CowParade SLO County raises a quarter-million dollars for local nonprofits.

After eight months of being the talk of the SLO County, the hilarious herd were steered toward the historic Santa Margarita Ranch on May 6, where the colorful cows were  auctioned off for charity raising $2150,653 for local nonprofits.

Bidders from all around arrived at Oyster Ridge at Ancient Pikes Winery, the newest venue on the ranch, for a day of auctioning, food, wine and beer. Historically, CowParade cows have fetched between $4,000 and $150,000 each at auctions around the globe, raising more than $30 million for charities worldwide. CowParade SLO County’s designated charities include ARTS Obispo, The Land Conservancy of San Luis Obispo County, and the California Mid-State Fair Heritage Foundation – aligning with our region’s focus on the arts, sustainability, and agriculture. Auction proceeds can also be designated to a charity of a sponsor’s choosing.

The live auction average in San Luis Obispo County exceeded the two most recent CowParade events in England and Brazil and was on par with averages in Boston, Denver, Houston and Kansas City.  Jesse/Jane, a cow sponsored by Barnett Cox & Associates and created by artist Dennis Bredow, earned the highest bid in San Luis Obispo County at $45,000, which supported the 40 Prado Homeless Services Center.

Taking place September 2016 – May 2017, the event gave local artists a chance to showcase their talents on a global stage. The region’s agricultural history, growing arts scene and its ecotourism draw make CowParade the perfect conduit for a countywide event that will involve, unite and benefit the whole community.
